Remember years ago

When everything was simple

We were young you know

That time we saw the King

A shadow of his former self

That still could sing

Oh that was long ago

When the music of our younger days

Was in our ears

That was so long ago

But now there's nothing left

Of the golden years

Remember days we've lost

When all of us were rebels

With a common cause

We really knocked 'em dead

With slogans, signs and banners

Calling for an end

We wanted peace on Earth

To save us from our nightmares

And our inner fears

That was so long ago

We wrestled with the issues

Of the golden years

We were young

We were foolish

We didn't know what the world was all about

Now it seems

Since we're older

That slogans are for kids

Banners just to make headlines

Remember long ago

I wish I could go back there now

With what I know

Go back to '69 with Abbey Road still playing

At our picket line

Was it so long ago

It seems our war is over now

We've shed our tears

It seems just days ago

But now we find our children face

Their golden years

Oh that was long ago

When the music of our younger days

Was in our ears

That was so long ago

And now there's nothing left

Of the golden years
