Words without music

Are like sunset without dawn

For what do the words all mean

If there's no way to sing them

So I try to write the music

For the words I hear each day

But how can I find a

Melody if there's none

But in every word I hear there's hope

That there's a melody inside

And I can turn it into song

Maybe I'm doing something wrong

For many days there's nothing there

Only the cold forbidding air

I can't find the words I want to say

I guess they don't matter anyway

I don't look back

There's nothing there

The only things I see are

Words without music

They're like oceans without shores

For how can you sail away

When there's no place to anchor

I like the sailing

And the rhythm of the sea

And somewhere the shore

Is waiting there for me

But meanwhile the melody rolls on

Repeating the chorus of the song

The words are a blur

They seem to say

Things'll get better any day

I wish I could liten to those words

The sound of the music's all I've heard

The beat of the drummer marching on

Reminds me that yesterday is gon

So I don't look back

There's nothing there

The only things I see are

Words without music

They're like actors without plays

For how can they know their part

If there's nothing to say

Oh I like the theater

And the penetrating lights

But the roles I seem to play

Aren't always right

Words without music

Are like sunset without dawn

For what do the words all mean

If there's no way to sing them

So I try to write the music

For the words I hear each day

But how can I find a

Melody if there's none
